Talking honestly about burnout

Organized in collaboration between HERSPECTIVE Business Lab and the Interreg Burnout Prevent project, our community event was focusing on leadership well-being. The scope of discussion was how and when burnout becomes a real risk for top managers, leaders and team builders.

Hosted jointly by Will Foundation and the International Project Office of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) the event opened up space for thoughtful conversations on how to lead, create, and care for our teams without ending up burnt out – and, if burnout has already happened, how to recover and rebuild from its symptoms.

The speakers of the evening shared their experiences openly and insightfully, offering valuable reflections:

  • Szilvia Bogdán (Nexon Group) emphasized that HR leadership and workplace well-being are not separate goals – rather two sides of the same coin.
  • Natália Oszkó-Jakab (Valley of Arts Festival) shared how creativity and community can be sustained under intense pressure. She also discussed how a good leader can support a colleague recovering from burnout, helping them stay grounded and reintegrate into the team in the long run.
  • Gyöngyi Porkoláb (Womanext Business Club) explained why asking the right questions is key, and what burnout prevention really means in the context of leadership.
  • Dr. György Purebl (Semmelweis University, Budapest) explored the topic from a scientific perspective, showing how stress and rest shape our minds, our decisions, and ultimately, our behavior.

He also shared some simple, practical tools with the audience – like taking out 30 minutes a day for personal recharge, or half a day off on weekends.

For two hours, we placed burnout in the spotlight, raising awareness of the warning signs – so we can become more effective at prevention, and healthier both mentally and physically in our work lives.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who shared their personal stories and experiences!

The HERSPECTIVE Business Lab event series will continue in the spring with further exciting and relevant topics.
